Every child is different, and deserves the chance to shine and be seen. That’s what we believe at Art As Mentorship, and why we created the Rebel Song Academy. At the heart of our programming, the Rebel Song Academy is a 12-week music camp for kids in the Kansas City area. Our curriculum guides young musicians through the entire artistic process, building life and career skills as we collaborate through music writing, recording, producing, and promoting — all consistent with modern industry practices. It’s our vision that these skills will project the next generation forward on their personal path to write their own success story.
The story behind the Rebel Song Academy
Born out of a 1-week music camp founded by Kansas City band Making Movies, the Rebel Song Academy exists to empower underprivileged and immigrant kids by giving them access to resources and facilities they wouldn’t the opportunity to use facilities they don’t normally have access to. While music Music is always at the forefront, at its corebut, under it all, the Rebel Song Academy teaches life skills, accessible mental health practices, and lifelong values to help every child grow. At the Rebel Song Academy, we invite and encourage every child to share their story through music, an opportunity they may not get elsewhere!
A music camp for kids ages 12 to 18
As the premier music camp for kids in Kansas City, the Rebel Song Academy, caters to kids from ages as young as 12 all the way to 18, meaning both middle and high school kids are welcome! As a music camp focused on creative outlets, students who arrive with moderate musical knowledge and background skills get the fullest experience during the duration of the music camp.
Flexible programs for all skill levels
Every young musician has their own goals, so our music camp for kids is designed to be versatile and flexible! Some students may already have high proficiency and simply seek to expand their horizons in the industry, while others may still be at a beginner level, or anything in between. Our instructors match every student’s individual level, and give the best instruction specially catered for them.
Upcoming events in 2022
In 2022, Rebel Song Academy will be held at Deep Space Cooperative, a premier and inclusive space designed by and for artists and musicians in the Kansas City area, located at 1664 Broadway Blvd. Kansas City, MO! The camp is held weekly on Wednesdays from February 16 to May 11, with a final concert on May 13! The deadline for applications is February 2, 2022!
Our final concert, held on May 13th during spring break, is the perfect opportunity for students to show off what their hard work and dedication has yielded! A fun and energetic event, the end of the camp concert is always a blast for students and their friends and family– and also a great way for the graduating young artists to get real world music experience and exposure.

As is the case for all our music camps for kids in Kansas City, the Rebel Song Academy caters to high schoolers and kids from ages 12-19. However, there are no set age cutoffs and exceptions have been made in the past for those seeking to join our programs. How can I support Art As Mentorship’s programs?
The best way to support Art As Mentorships in our endeavor to bring resources, opportunity, and programs to children in underprivileged areas is to donate. Donations are never required, but always appreciated and put to good use. Any amount can make a difference. All the money donated to Art As Mentorship goes directly back to the students and young musicians enrolled in our music camps.
Will the Rebel Song Academy make me the next Beyoncé?
The goal of the Rebel Song Academy is not to make anyone famous, but rather to teach them the life and music skills they need to create their own music and shape their life for the better. While being famous is nice, we prioritize our students becoming more rounded and skilled individuals. However, it is true that the qualities Art As Mentorship encourages and helps nourish do set the foundation for higher achievement.

Where are the Art As Mentorship camps located?
We are lucky to have many incredible locations for our camps, including a recording studio at InterUrban Art House, Deep Space Cooperative, a video studio located at Lifted Logic, and office spaces.
